Porridge enthusiasts will swear that their way is the best and as this is my way this is of course ‘THE’ best way! I usually slide into porridge making somewhere around October / November and it will continue to comfort me through these hard months probably up and into April as well when I’ll switch over to granola.
Here’s my step by step.
You will need:
Porridge Oats
Water
Cooking Apple
Honey
Cinnamon
A little milk (optional)
Method:
Place appropriate quantity of oats with water in a saucepan (according to pack instructions) and leave to soak overnight if you can ( this will lead to quicker cooking, smoother porridge)
Prepare your cooking apple by cutting a shallow groove into the centre of it all the way around
Place the prepared apple in a bowl, cover it and place in the microwave and begin to cook it for 3 to 4 minutes while you cook the porridge. You want it cooked until tender and pulpy.
You’re porridge is cooked over a medium heat stirring more or less continuously for 3 or 4 minutes.
Scoop out the cooked apple and place on top of the porridge. Drizzle with a little honey and sprinkle with some cinnamon. I like to add a little milk too and then indulge. Considered by many to be peasant food this is a breakfast for kings.
Enjoy!
Til next time, Sheila.
